Abstract

The provided researches on the stock abundance dynamics of Pacific salmon in Kamchatka allowed to work out a unite scheme of harvest control rules (HCR) for the most important regional stock utits. The basis data used included the run, escapement and catch in the 1990–2010s. Theoretical and mathematical principles of substantiation the HCR, based on the use of models “stock recruitment”, are demonstrated in the article. Modeling the HCRs is made in view of precautional approuch to effects on salmon stocks, what provides keeping safe the spawning stock and supporting the runs (returns) above the critical mark (buffer reference point). The latter allows to form conditions for the maximum sustainable yield (MSY) of Pacific salmon in Kamchatka. For now similar approuch to the fishery management is indispensable environmental standard of international principles of the rational use of aquatic biological resources. Moreover practical ap- plications of the HCR models suggested are demonstrated in examples of predicted estimates of the returns of the biggest units of salmon stocks of Kamchatka in 2022.

Abstract

Results of the assessment of by-catch in the specialized fishery of target crab species are presented. The studies covered three fishing areas: off Western Kamchatka (Kamchatka-Kuril and West Kamchatka sub- zones) and off the southeastern coast of Kamchatka (Petropavlovsk-Komandorskaya subzone). In addition to the target object, the catches included both non-target species of crabs and representatives of other groups of animals: fish and invertebrates. The by-catch of fish included representatives of several genera, the most common being Pacific cod (Gadus macrocephalus), Irish lords (Hemilepidothus sp.) and snailfishes (Careproctus sp.). Among invertebrate representatives in the by-catch, octopuses (Octopus sp.) most often prevailed by weight in the fishery of red king crab (Paralithodes camtschaticus) off Western Kamchatka and Tanner crab (Chionoecetes bairdi) off Eastern Kamchatka.

Abstract

We determined the size of sexual maturity of male and female blue crabs in the northwestern part of the sea (zone of cold core action), as well as in the northeastern part of the sea and the local cluster near the Iona bank (zone of comparatively warm waters). Morphological 50% maturation of males in the northwestern part of the Sea of Okhotsk was observed at the carapace width of 73.3 mm. Similar width were demonstrated for the northeastern part of the sea and for the Iona Bank area – respectively 88.5 mm and 91.0 mm. Females in samples from the northwestern part of the sea reached functional 50% maturity at the carapace width of 71.7 mm, from the northeastern part – of 79.4 mm, and from the Iona Bank – of 81.0 mm. Comparison with available literature data showed that blue crab in the northwestern part of the Sea of Okhotsk has probably the slowest growth rate, and the crabs have the smallest size at maturity compared to individuals in the other areas.

Abstract

The character of the spatial distribution of the opilio snow crab commercial males in different areas of the northeastern part of the Sea of Okhotsk is considered based on the data collected in 1996–2010 and 2014. The densest aggregations of the crab revealed are in the Shelikhov Bay and adjacent sea waters. Size composition of the males and their size-frequency distribution were analyzed, the average commercial size is figured out. Conclusions about the state of the stock of opilio snow carb in the area considered and the prospects for its development are made.

Abstract

Total egg production in the “reference” points of canyons, date of peak spawning, duration of spawning and coefficients of egg losses are evaluated in this work on the data of ichthyoplankton survey math simulation for the canyons of Avacha Gulf for 2014–2018. It has been figured out that during the period analyzed, the spawning intensity of walleye pollock in the canyons decreased compared to the period 2003– 2013.

Abstract

Analysis of comparability of field (sub-satellite) observations of the temperature conditions in the northern part of Kamchatsky Gulf with two sets of satellite data of high resolution of the fourth level processing provided by different research groups was made based on four hydrological and acoustic surveys in June–July in 2021. Significant discrepancy in situ data and one of the satellite monitoring sets has revealed either on the absolute values and on the spatial distribution. Second set demonstrated more tight connection on both components of the research.
