Abstract
General traits of life history and distribution of arabesque greenling in the waters from the west cost of Hokkaido and Tatar Strait to Aniva Bay, Terpeniya Bay and south-western part of the Sea of Okhotsk, including shelf and continental slope of the South Kuril Islands (Sakhalin-Hokkaido cluster) have been characterized based on materials of trawl surveys carried out by fish biologists from Kamchatka Branch and Pacific Branch of VNIRO in the Sea of Japan, Sea of Okhotsk and Pacific Ocean water off the South Kuril Islands, and on the data from literature. Patterns of larval, juvenile and adult arabesque greenling distribution across habitats and seasons are examined. Influence of environmental conditions on the duration of egg development and larval hatching is discussed, and spawning times for arabesque greenling in these areas are clarified. Obtained results can be used for planning scientific cruises and researches to evaluate stocks of the Okhotsk Atka mackerel and provide recommendations for the rational use of the resource.
